My thoughts on the iPad 2;
I am not impressed.
It is quite clear; gone are the days when an Apple product is so innovative, so genre defining and so groundbreaking. In its place are now a line of products that are smaller, thinner and a bit faster…… oh, and with a snazzy case.
Apple has found a fanboy fanbase, and knows how to squeeze every last pound out of them.
I remember the palpable atmosphere when the iPhone 2G was announced, a groundbreaking product, or when Apple switched to intel chips. Or when the chunky iPod went mini and then incredibly….. nano. All amazing leaps forward in tech.
And this is why (in my opinion) 2010 and maybe 2011 is not the year of apple or the iPad 2. Neither the iPad or the iPhone 4, for me, compare to the revolutionary advancements in previous years.
I own an iPhone 4 and i was pretty disappointed with it. As anyone who owns one will admit to - the iPhone 4 is plagued with faults. My handset is victim to the ‘antenna-gate’ issue, does have the worst battery life of any device i have ever owned, does turn itself off and does have proximity sensor problems. I also own an iPad. I will be selling it soon; because it really is just a big iPod.
In 2010, Apple sold 15 million iPads in just nine months-more than any other tablet computer ever sold. The iPad generated $9.5 billion in revenues for the company, and has gained over 90 percent of market share.
The iPad 2 is no leap forward, nothing groundbreaking, not especially innovative. its an update (and i use update in the THINNEST of contexts). Its another ‘thinner and faster’ product, and i am hoping that ‘Apple fans’ will see straight through it this time.
