2011 in music is the year of roots? This is my prediction - and i am excited about it. There are some exciting records being released this year and it looks like most of the most anticipated releases will be showcasing the bands ‘roots’ R.E.M. will be releasing ‘Collapse into Now’ which has references to Murmur and New adventures in HiFi in it, Elbow are releasing a new record after their mammoth success with The Seldom Seen Kid, and, instead of bowing to POP culture pressure they have made an album that will stand alongside their four masterpieces that have gone before it. The Strokes have taken 5 years to write a new album - but if their lead single is anything to go by - it should be a great listen. Noah and The Whale will be releasing another ‘nu-folk’ effort and Radiohead have already released a guerilla ‘King of Limbs’ album that shouts back to the Kid A days…
But the one i am most excited about right now is the new Foo Fighters record… Dave Grohl promised us a heavier record and THANK GOD for that because their last two records have been very poor… Lead single ‘Rope’ is drenched in heaviness and i think is a direct reflection and influence from his short but obviously influential time in the bad-ass supergroup ‘Them Crooked Vultures’
Bring on 2011 - A year in roots! Lets hope other bands follow suit….. Kings of Leon maybe?!?!
